Our Tutors
Most of our independently contracted tutors are or have been homeschool parents, committed to training up their own children in the ways of God, and desiring to minister to other families in those areas of special interest and ability. It is a great privilege to introduce these tutors to you; every year I am overwhelmed with the experience and gifts these tutors add to our program. Although most have education-related degrees, they are teaching because of their enthusiasm for their subject matter and their proven ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. They have a commitment to a Christian worldview and to discipleship of the next generation through education.

Allison Desautell - WRITING AND LITERATURE
ALLISON DESAUTELL taught her three boys at home from 1997 to 2014, and all three boys have now graduated from college. Since 2006, she has been a popular instructor at Good Company Tutorials and more recently at Learning Together Tutorials teaching writing, literary analysis, study skills, SAT Prep, and Readers Theater classes. Known for successfully breaking down daunting academic tasks into manageable chunks, Allison helps students find success in every class she teaches. Passionate about the role of classic literature and traditional stories (myths, fairy tales, legends) in developing the moral imagination of children, she has been teaching literature classes and hosting book discussions for students for over twenty-five years, and under her tutelage students learn to look at novels metaphorically and biblically. She has a BS in Therapeutic Recreation/Behavioral Science and is a registered IEW writing instructor who has now helped thousands of students learn to read and write well. |
Carol de Vries - WRITING
While homeschooling each of her three children through high school and
teaching in a variety of co-op settings, CAROL DE VRIES received further
training through the Institute for Excellence in Writing. Using this
curriculum for over a decade, she has been teaching IEW at the certified
level since 2019. Carol believes passionately that to communicate
effectively and competently, students need to be taught early to love
beautiful words and works, and she especially enjoys helping middle
schoolers improve their writing skills in order to enter high school
with a solid foundation in beginning writing structures, techniques, and
language. Having worked with students of all ages, middle schoolers are
by far her favorites!
